I'll meet you where the road ends

Some mornings I step outside and the clouds are still below me. Everything is still. The mountains are pink, the air smells like rain that just passed, and I think: this is it.

I missed something I didn't even know existed until I saw it for the first time. Height. Depth. Air that gets thinner. The smell of resin in the sun. I didn't follow a plan to move here at first. I just kept moving one step closer to the mountains every time.

Now I walk through the grass with families, along ridgelines with couples, with people celebrating their wedding day in a place you can only reach on foot. And I photograph what happens in between. The look when no one's watching. The laugh that makes no sense. Hair blowing every which way. Kids finding mud and deciding the shoot can wait.
